Node Operator Guide

Mainnet full nodes resolve SuiNS names without extra configuration. Testnet nodes require three additional fields in the YAML configuration file: name-service-package-address, name-service-registry-id, and name-service-reverse-registry-id.

Full nodes for the Mainnet environment process SuiNS names without additional configuration. The Mysten Labs public nodes for Testnet also resolve SuiNS names.

Full node configuration​

Full node configuration is necessary for nodes to resolve SuiNS names in the Testnet environment.

To configure a node for SuiNS name resolution on Testnet, add the following options to your yaml configuration file:

Configuration fields​

Each field maps to a specific onchain object in the SuiNS deployment:

  • name-service-package-address: The address of the SuiNS package on Testnet. The node uses this to locate and call the name resolution logic.
  • name-service-registry-id: The object ID of the SuiNS registry. The registry maps human-readable names to their resolved addresses.
  • name-service-reverse-registry-id: The object ID of the reverse registry. The reverse registry maps addresses back to their registered names.

These values are fixed for the Testnet deployment. You do not need to change them unless the SuiNS package is redeployed to a new address.

How to apply the configuration​

After adding the fields, restart your full node for the changes to take effect.

  1. Open your node's YAML configuration file. The default file is fullnode.yaml.
  2. Add the three name-service-* fields shown above to the top level of the file.
  3. Save the file.
  4. Restart the full node process.

Once the node restarts, it resolves SuiNS names for incoming requests on the Testnet network.

Which networks support SuiNS name resolution?​

Both Mainnet and Testnet support SuiNS name resolution:

  • Mainnet: SuiNS name resolution works without any configuration changes. All Mainnet full nodes resolve names by default.
  • Testnet: SuiNS name resolution requires the three configuration fields described above. Without them, the node does not resolve SuiNS names.

Localnet and Devnet do not have a SuiNS deployment and do not support name resolution.
